Silicon Valley Shogi Club

Welcome to Silicon Valley Shogi!

We're BACK!

After a few years' hiatus, we're meeting in person again! Our meeting time has changed to Tuesdays, 7-9pm. Meet us at Panera!

We've also become an official overseas branch of the JSA!

If you want to help us spread the word, you can print out official flyers and post them in common areas, or anywhere else you think might attract attention! We have both a full page flyer and quarter page flyers available. We don't have any official funding yet so we're a grassroots effort - thank you for your help!

We are a friendly community of shogi players based in the southern San Francisco Bay Area. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we met every Monday from 7:00pm - 10:00pm at Game Kastle in Mountain View. Unfortunately, that Game Kastle location ceased operations.

Shogi (将棋), or the Game of Generals, is a chess variant native to Japan. While they share similarities, shogi has a particularly uncommon mechanic where players may use captured pieces as their own. This allows for games that evolve, with more dynamic and flexible strategies than other chess variants.

We welcome players of all skill levels from novice to expert, including people who have never played and want to learn! Join us and make new friends, improve your game, and help us expand our community!
